NM Pre-K Family Engagement:
RISD NM Pre-K believes that communication between families and our schools is a vital factor for the wellbeing and development of our students.
One way our NM Pre-K program assures this is by offering 90 hours of family engagement activities. This includes a home visit, parent and teacher conferences, and school and community-based activities
To ensure further cohesion between families and schools, Monica Kelly and Esmeralda Jaramillo, our Bilingual Family and Community Engagement Specialists work with families throughout various programs and activities.
Parent Pyramid:
Each school year, The Family Engagement Specialists offer a 7-week parent training in English and Spanish. Parents are given the guidance and skills to promote their young children’s social and emotional skills, understand their problem behavior, and use positive approaches to teach children appropriate behavior. These classes are taken via zoom.
Book and Toy Lending Library:
The Book and Toy lending library located at Parkview ELC gives families the opportunity to check out books and toys to use and have fun at home. There is also an area for families to play with their children or read books to them within the library. The Family Engagement Specialists provide a safe space for you and your children. Be sure to set an appointment to come and visit the library on Wednesdays from 9:00-11:00 am and 2:00 -5:30 pm.
GED/ESL Classes:
In partnership with ENMU-R Adult Education, the opportunity to learn English and/or complete your GED is offered to parents, caregivers and community members. Classes are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Parkview ELC. Enrollment is ongoing throughout the year. Contact the Family Engagement Specialist for more information.
Support and Resources:
The Family Engagement Specialists are available to provide and offer support with resources and opportunities to help meet individual family needs. Contact Monica Kelly or Esmeralda Jaramillo to set up an appointment.
